About Wayand

Wayanad is located in the Western Ghats, is one of the few districts in Kerala that has been able to keep its pristine nature. It also famous for its picturesque misty mountains and spice plantations.

Accessing Wayanad

Road – Well Connected roads. Kozikode (78kms), Ooty (175kms), Mysore 140kms,

Rail – Wayanad is not connected with Rail. Kozhikode is the nearest rly station. Bangalore – Direct buses from Bangalore to Kalpata/Sulthan Betheri. \Chennai – By train to Calicut.

Air – Nearest Airport Calicut/Kozhikode.

Important Places to Visit

Kuruvadweep - (17kms from Mananthavady). Kuruvadeep is a 950 acre, uninhabited island located near Kabani River. It is very idle or day outing. It has very rare species of birds, orchids and herbs.
Permitting Authority : Divisional Forest Officer, Wayanad, Kalpetta.

Pazassi Tomb - (32km west of Kalpetta). Pazassi Tomb is the memorial of Veera Pazhassi Raja, who organized guerilla warfare against the British East India Company is situated at Mananthavady. The Pulpally Cave is where Pazhassi took refuge until he was captured by the British.

Chembra Peak. (18km from Kalpetta). Located at 2100m above sea level, Chembra is the tallest peak in Wayanad. It is an idle place for trekking. The Forest Department organize one day and 2 days wild life trekking.

Banasura Sagar Dam. (26km from Kalpetta). This is the largest earth dam in India and second largest in Asia. A sprawling sanctuary and park with ever flowering trees are major tourist attraction.

Meenmutty Water Fall. (29km from Kalpetta). A 2km trek on the Wayand-Ooty highway will lead you to the largest and most spectacular waterfall in Wayanad. A unique feature of the water fall is that it falls from nearly 1000ft over three stages.

Sentinel Rock Waterfalls (23 km away from Kalpetta). Also know as Soochippara water falls, the water fall is very ideal for a bath. One of the most attractive falls in the district, the water hits the sharp spikes of granite at the base.

Edakkal Caves - (12km from Sulthan Bathery). We can reach Edakkal caves after an hour trek. The wall art found in these caves that have been inhabited at various states of history has caught the attention of archaeologists worldwide. The paintings dating back to over 300yrs.
The only cave restaurant in the country here. It is open from 0900hrs to 1700hrs. Morning hours are the best to visit.

Pookot Lake. (15km away from Kalpetta). This freshwater lake nestling among wooded hills is a popular picnic spot.

Leisure Activities

River Rafting - River rafting in the river Kabani and explore the little islands. The river is run through the wildlife sanctuary.

Rainforest Trekking - Trek through rainforest in Wayanad with professional trackers and guides from the local community. It will help to introduce wide range of flora and fauna.

Wildlife Safari - Trek through the sanctuaries of Muthanga and tholpetty to spot wide range of animals from the leopard to an elephant.
