Munnar is situated in the Idukki district of Kerala State in India . The word "Munnar" literally means three rivers. The 3 mountain streams namely Madurapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala join together here. Throughout the British rule in India , Munnar was the summer resort of the Government officials. The innate splendor, serenity and mild cold climate all over the year make it the much loved tourist place of both Indians and foreigners.

There are about 30 tea plantations in and around Munnar, majority of which are owned by the Tata and Kannan Devan Group. The tea estates, mounts, lakes and woodlands inside Munnar range represent its exquisiteness. The tea plantations covering the Munnar hills give us the feeling of seeing a endless green carpet.

The locals here speak Malayalam and Tamil and English. The easy route to reach Munnar is from Ernakulam which is about 135km and about 4 hours drive. The Aluva-Munnar road extends through Perumbavoor, Adimali. and Kothamangalam. Bus services are available to Ernakulam (135km), Thekkady (100km), Thiruvananthapuram (300km), Palani (120km) and Coimbatore (150km) from Munnar.

  Devikulam

Is 7 Km away tourists are attracted to this lake town. Devikulam is an exotic experience among striking flora and fauna and chilly mountain breeze- A pleasant hill station at that. The Sita Devi Lake sited here is a perfect picnic spot with its pictorial surrounds, mineral water, and fishing conveniences.

  Mattupetty Lake

Mattupetty Lake and Dam, which is 14 km from Munnar, at an altitude of 1700 mt, are trendy picnic spot with visitors. The lake and dam bounded by wooden hills and tea farms, crafts a grand view. Boating is permitted on Mattupetty Lake .

  Rajamalai

Rajamala sited 15 Km away from Munnar is 2695m above sea level. The Nilgiri Tahrs is conserved here. However today they are reduced to little herds, found in the Eravikulam-Rajamala.
